EPA fines shopping center developers for violation of Clean Water Act

The retail development company that built the new Grandview Station shopping center on Sugar Hill Road was fined $9,000 recently by the EPA for a violation of the federal Clean Water Act.

However, one of the owners of the project said his firm did everything possible to remove the pollution from the stream and notified state environmental officials about the problem.

“We take our responsibility to comply with the law, the stormwater management law, very seriously,” said Art Kepes, co-owner of the Grandview Station project. “We work very hard and we try to go above and beyond.”
