When Warren Haynes first started the Jam as a small-scale local reunion show in 1989, Asheville didn't have many venues to support nationally touring acts. As the event grew — from a few hundred at 45 Cherry, to 800 at Be Here Now, to 2,400 at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium — so did Asheville’s music community. Now the Jam sells out the 7,000-plus Asheville Civic Center every year.
