Here's the press release from the Mills River Presbyterian Church:
Mills River, NC – Pastor Randall Boggs has offered to be the first one to "drop his pants" off at the Mills River Presbyterian Church clothing drive in January 2012. Boggs --- and his congregation members --- invite local community members to bring in their gently-used slacks, jeans and pants to contribute to the “Drop Your Pants” collection drive to benefit needy residents of Henderson County through Interfaith Assistance Ministry.
“If you indulge a bit too much this holiday season and suddenly your pants don’t seem to fit as comfortably as in the past, you can donate them to our “Drop Your Pants” drive anytime during the month of January,” says Boggs. “We’re collecting men’s, women’s and children’s gently-used slacks, jeans and pants along with packages of new underclothing (including underwear, undershirts and long johns) for those in need in our county.
“In 2011 we gathered more than 900 sweaters and sweatshirts, 600 pairs of shoes and sneakers, along with almost 500 coats for those in need in our community through our ongoing collection efforts. Response from the community and church members has been amazing. We encourage everyone to think of this as another way to clean out your closets, get rid of those pants that have magically 'shrunk' over the years and feel good about helping out others at the same time!”
Donations to the "Drop Your Pants" collection will be accepted in the Fellowship Hall at Mills River Presbyterian Church from January 1 – 31, 2012.
“We have a great deal of fun coming up with these themed clothing collections each year, but the purpose behind the collections is very serious," says Boggs. “There are people in our own community who can benefit greatly from these clothing donations. Everyone is encouraged to donate whatever they can to help IAM take care of people in our area.”
