ASHEVILLE – On Monday, 12-19-11, at approx. 10:13 pm, the Asheville Police Department responded to the parking lot of the First Citizens Bank located at 2106 Hendersonville Rd., Asheville, NC 28803; in reference to a report of an Attempted Armed Robbery.
Upon arrival, officers met with Casey Kincaid who advised that she had gone to the bank with Brittany Staszak to drop off the night deposit for Little Caesar’s Restaurant. She stated that while there a black van with bumper damage pulled in front of her cutting her off from leaving the bank. A white male wearing a ski-mask, black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white shoes then got out of the back of the van with what Ms. Kincaid thought was a baseball bat (but later turned out to be a machete) and started to run toward Ms. Kincaid. Ms. Kincaid, (who was still in her vehicle) quickly left the scene and called 911.
As the initial officers on scene were taking the report, Deputies with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office contacted APD and advised that they had stopped a vehicle matching our suspect vehicle description at Mills Gap and Cane Creek Road., with three possible suspects inside.
APD Detectives responded to the scene and interviewed two females who provided written statements as to the third suspect’s activities prior to the vehicle stop.
Evidence from the scene consistent with the victim’s statement was recovered from the vehicle.
The male suspect in this matter, James Brandon Jennings, of 691 Upper Grassy Branch Ext., was charged with Attempted Armed Robbery and is currently being held on a $25,000.00 secure bond.
