It is assumed that this ranking was based upon readers' comments. It was not at all unusual for a story to see comments numbering well over 100 (sometimes quite a bit more), as many of those stories did. Now that they've neutered the ability to post anything other than a few people politely agreeing with one another (a very few people, less than the actual number of posts), next year's top ten list will probably be made up of those incendiary or provocative stories that generated "more than a dozen posts!"
