Sen. Bob Rucho, of Mecklenburg County, said this week an updated congressional map could be released over the weekend. He said the map in part will examine issues raised about the 1st Congressional District, represented by Democrat G.K. Butterfield. The original boundaries removed five eastern counties that are subject to restrictions by the federal Voting Rights Act.
Rucho said any changes will have a ripple effect on the other proposed congressional districts released earlier this month.
That could mean possible changes to the 10th and 11th Congressional Districts in Western North Carolina.
