Here's an announcement from Buncombe County Schools:

Fifth and sixth grade students and their parents will have the opportunity to preview the new classrooms and other facilities this week at Charles T. Koontz Intermediate School, before opening day on Monday, January 9, 2012. The school was designed to meet the technical standards for LEED certification, an internationally-recognized system for building green.

On Thursday, January 5, fifth grade students currently housed at Avery's Creek, Estes and Glen Arden Elementary schools will be brought to Koontz during the school day to tour the new facility. At 10:00 a.m. they will be joined by Mr. Koontz himself, as he tours the facility that will carry his name. That evening, parents of fifth grade students will attend an open house at the school beginning at 6pm.

On Friday, January 6, sixth grade students will tour the school during the day, with an open house for parents in the evening beginning at 6pm.

The first day of actual classes at Koontz Intermediate will be Monday, January 9. Although some cosmetic work and technology installation will likely still need to be completed after opening day, it will be done at times when it will not impact instruction.
