According to the Hendersonville Times-News, Michael Leroy Wilkie has confessed to killing his wife, missing Hendersonville woman Shelby Anne Wilkie, and her body was found at a home on Kanuga Lake Road, the Henderson County Sheriff's Office said late Thursday night.

At approximately 6:27 p.m. on Monday January 2, 2012, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Michael Leroy Wilkie stating that his wife Shelby Anne Wilkie had not returned to her Moody Street home and was missing.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office launched an investigation based on this report.

Investigators received information from numerous sources which raised suspicions about Michael Wilkie’s truthfulness concerning the reported disappearance of his wife. Detectives developed additional information that led to probable cause that a crime had been committed. In a matter of hours search warrants were issued and multiple vehicles and properties in Henderson County were searched.
The evidence seized as a result of the warrants as well as other information obtained during the investigative process led detectives to the discovery of several crime scenes and remains believed to be that of Shelby Anne Wilkie. The remains will be escorted by Sheriff’s Office personnel to Chapel Hill for autopsy on January 6, 2012.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Thursday January 5, 2012, Michael Leroy Wilkie was arrested at the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder in the disappearance of his wife. He was taken to the Henderson County Detention Facility and processed. He is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in District Court on Friday January 6, 2012.
