Progress Energy needs to clarify for customers its tree-removal policy, according to an order from state officials.





The document, released Wednesday by the N.C. Utilities Commission, states that the power company needs to clarify the information contained in the materials it distributes prior to removing trees in customers’ yards to prevent potential outages.


“The documents that (Progress Energy) provided continue to contain conflicting information, especially regarding whether the Company does, or does not, permit trees with a mature height of 12 feet or more to remain within a …. line right-of-way,” the document reads. ...
