Toxic emissions from industry on the rise in NC after 4 years of decline

The volume of toxic chemicals N.C. industries released into the air, water or land rose nearly 4 percent in 2010, reversing a four-year trend of declining emissions.

That's according to last week's update of the Toxics Release Inventory. The TRI is the government's annual account of more than 600 chemicals that can cause cancer or other illnesses. It typically comes out about a year after the releases it summarizes.
