Experts say a bridge in Mills River needs replacing

MILLS RIVER — A bridge on Hooper Lane over the Mills River has "structural deficiencies" and needs to be replaced, a state Department of Transportation engineer told the Mills River Town Council on Thursday.

Bridges in the NCDOT inventory are inspected every two years. A bridge is given a rating by inspectors, and that rating is used to determine whether the bridge is sufficient, said Josh Deyton, Division Bridge Management engineer with the DOT.
