Last year, the city had 29 homicides, 11 more than in 2010, according to police. Detectives with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, meanwhile, investigated eight homicides. That number is up from five in 2010.
Law enforcement officers and criminologists say the spike in homicides is not necessarily a cause for growing concern.
