On Jan. 25, the national events director for USA Cycling toured the Biltmore Estate as a possibility for the national championship for cyclo-cross in 2014 or 2015; it's an event that could bring up to 1,800 athletes and 5,000 spectators to WNC. — possibly more than $1 million dollars in tourist spending, the Asheville Citizen-Times reports. Cyclocross combines road cycling, closed-track and mountain-bike racing, and takes place on a variety of terrain, including grass, pavement, dirt, mud and gravel.
