Here's the press release from the campaign of congressional candidate Timothy Murphy (NC-10):
Timothy Murphy of Rutherfordton and Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy, Democratic candidates for the US House in the 10th District, attended the Polk County Democrats Men's Club Fundraising Dinner on Friday night.
The candidates (who did not coordinate their visit) mingled with the party faithful and stumped for votes at the event, which was held at the Party Headquarters in Columbus.
Of the event, Mr. Murphy said, "This is my favorite atmosphere to work in. As a regular, working-class person seeking to represent my working-class neighbors, I prefer the informal atmosphere of a community event to that of a campaign event. It's more productive (and more fulfilling for me) to sit and chat over a meal than to stand at a podium and give a speech. I prefer that the primary focus of events be on the participants, rather than on the candidate. They are the important ones, we're just here to listen and learn from them. I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to attend more of these events and sit down with as many voters as I can over the next three months"
State representative Patsy Keever (who was not in attendance) is also vying for the democratic nomination in the 10th district
