The ongoing saga surrounding Henderson County Sheriff Rick Davis finally turned the corner toward a resolution Monday when the Board of Commissioners announced that Davis has been granted a medical retirement.

Commissioners, who planned to discuss the matter in closed session at the end of their scheduled meeting, learned of the news earlier in the day from County Manager Steve Wyatt, who received a letter from the state retirement system stating Davis' medical retirement had been approved, board Chairman Tommy Thompson said.

At the meeting, Thompson read aloud a copy of a letter that will be sent to county Republican Party Chairman Mike Scruggs, informing the party of the vacancy and asking Scruggs to recommend a replacement for Davis by the board's March 5 meeting. ...
