APD investigates Patton Ave. Wells Fargo bank robbery

FROM THE ASHEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT (full release)
On Thursday, 02-09-12, at approx. 10:15 am; Officers from the Asheville Police Department received a call from the Wells Fargo Bank located at 900 Smokey Park Hwy, in reference to a Bank Robbery.

According to bank personnel, a white male suspect entered the bank and immediately pointed a handgun at the tellers over the counter demanding money and verbally threatening to shoot the bank employees.

After obtaining an indeterminate amount of money, the suspect fled on foot and was last seen running between the bank and the Cigarette Depot, towards the rear of the shopping complex (bank personnel were unharmed). One individual was detained at the scene, but after further investigation was released.

The suspect is described as a W/M, approx. 6’2” – 6’4” tall, husky build, wearing a tan colored hooded jacket and a bandana across his face. The suspect was armed with what was described as a silver colored handgun.
