Cold snap good for apples, bad for peaches? Henderson county farmers prepare

Temperatures dropping into the teens tonight could disrupt the budding process for peach trees and adversely affect crops, but for local apple growers, the cold might help:

For apple trees, however, the cold weather could be a good break for the crops, said Henderson County Cooperative Extension Service Director Marvin Owings.

"As a matter of fact, the cold is what we've been hoping for to slow the development (budding) down," he said. "If warmer temperatures continue, the trees will continue to develop. We are way too early in the season for bud break." ...
