According to the Hendersonville Times-News, Henderson County School Board members voted unanimously Monday to support putting a proposed quarter-cent sales tax increase referendum on the November ballot.
Chairman Ervin Bazzle told board members the proposed sales tax increase would help the school system pay down its debt service in addition to providing funds for future capital needs. The school district currently has a debt service of about $9 million, Superintendent David Jones said.
County officials have said that a quarter-cent sales tax hike would create about $2.3 million in extra revenue, based on current figures. The money would be shared with Blue Ridge Community College, Bazzle said, although exactly how it would be divided is a matter for future discussion with BRCC officials and county leaders.Read the full article
