New York Magazine covers Asheville in its travel section

“Home to the annual electronic-music festival Moogfest, this progressive spot in the heart of the Smoky Mountains boasts a thriving arts and music scene year-round,” says “New York Magazine” in its travel feature, “The Five-Point Weekend Escape Plan: Go Alternative in Asheville.”

While to-do suggestions begin with the obvious (“Watch the sun set over the Blue Ridge Mountains from the huge terrace at The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa”), the article also delves into less-traversed territory, giving props to Chai Pani and The Grey Eagle. There’s also an insider’s tip section that says, “For a firsthand taste of Asheville’s bohemian vibe, saunter over to downtown’s Pritchard Park (Patton Avenue at College Street) on Friday nights, when a huge, informal drum and dance circle appears after 6 p.m.” Not sure how that’s an “insider” tip. I mean, have you ever been in downtown Asheville on fair-weather Friday evening and tried to NOT notice the drum circle?

And, while the resource neglects Xpress’ Clubland when sending readers looking for a band to listen to, there is a link to the Asheville Grown Business Alliance.
