Tonight, Feb. 20, Mountain Voices Alliance is hosting an open forum about the future of the Asheville-Buncombe water system from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Jubilee! in downtown Asheville (46 Wall St.). Last week, the Asheville-Buncombe League of Women Voters held a similar forum in North Asheville.

Tonight's forum is titled, "Losing Control of Our Water," and is one of several forums being held in response to the creation of a Statehouse committee that is studying three options:

1. Letting the City of Asheville retain control of the water system
2. Creating an independent regional water authority
3. Turning the system over to the Metropolitan Sewerage District

Panelists for the evening include committee chair Rep. Tim Moffitt and committee member Chuck McGrady; Rep. Patsy Keever; Buncombe County Board of Commissioners Chair David Gantt; Asheville Council members Jan Davis and Marc Hunt; local public-interest activist Barry Summers; Warren Wilson College economics professor Susan Kask; Asheville Downtown Association director Joe Minicozzi; and Clear Water for North Carolina Assistant Director Katie Hicks.
