Grant awarded to remove asbestos and lead paint from Asheville buildings

Land of Sky Regional Council’s Regional Brownfields Initiative (RBI) is pleased to announce the award of a $100,000 sub-grant to Mountain Housing Opportunities (MHO) and Eagle Market Development Corporation (EMDC). Funds from the RBI Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) will used for a sub-grant to assist with the cleanup of lead paint and asbestos at the Glen Rock Hotel in Asheville’s River Arts District and the Del Cardo and Collette buildings in the historic African American business district, known as “The Block” in Asheville. The Glen Rock Hotel is Phase III of MHO’s Glen Rock Development Project; plans for renovation of the building include 22 affordable housing units and approximately 14,000 sf. of commercial space. The DelCardo and Collette buildings are part of the collaborative effort between MHO and the Eagle Market Development Corporation. The Eagle Market Place project is a mixed use residential and commercial project which includes commercial space and 70 units of affordable housing.
