According to the Asheville Citizen-Times, Naturalist Carlton Burke says his wildlife rehabilitation center here will bounce back from a devastating fire, but it may take a while.
More than 100 animals, most of them reptiles, were lost in the blaze Saturday at the center on North Mills River Road. Five owls were among the animals killed, including a barred owl seen by thousands of people in Burke’s wildlife education programs over the past 14 years.
“It’s difficult, but luckily it didn’t involve any loss of human life,” Burke said. “I’ll be downsized for a little while and may not be able to do as many programs as I did. But I’ll continue what I’m doing in some capacity.”Read the full article
