It's been a little while since we heard from local psychedelic indie-rockers Doc Aquatic. Well, actually front man J.C. Hayes did send a note recently — the band has been at work writing and recording a new album. Of the tune "Bank to Keep," Hayes says it "deals with holding onto memories of friends and family." Check it out on the New Weird Asheville, Vol. 1 compilation, available for free download (other tracks are by Muntjac, Wyla, Replicants, T.S. Rex, Tim Vinson, Merryl, Luke Puke, Glorious Incandescence, ER Airplane, Alligator Indian, Anubis Rude, The Pilot and the Pussy, Diesel Daiquiri and dep).
Catch Doc Aquatic live on Thursday, March 8. They open for The Hill and Wood from Charlottesville, Va. (From that group's bio: "The band has shifted from their folk-pop roots and integrated themselves into a multifaceted and stratified sound comparable at times to the chamber-pop melodies of Belle & Sebastian, at other times the symphonic, orchestral swells of Bishop Allen and Wilco.")
It's an early-ish show at The Grey Eagle, with Doc Aquatic on at 8:45 p.m. and The Hill and Wood at 9:45 p.m. $8.
