Full announcement from the city of Asheville:

Several public meetings will be held in March to present the details of a proposed business improvement district for downtown Asheville. Business improvement districts are special assessment districts set up to benefit residents and property and business owners in a downtown area.

“We’re working very hard to reach as many property and business owners as possible,” said Susan Griffin, Chair of the Downtown Management Committee. “It’s important for folks to get educated about what these districts can do for a downtown area.”

A business improvement district was recommended in the Downtown Master Plan. The Downtown Management Subcommittee has been working for the last two years to bring the proposal forward. An Interim Board of Directors was formed in early 2012, working on specific details of the district.
