Occupy Asheville will hold a festive march and demonstration to celebrate the Ides of March, or Tyrannicide Day. On Thursday, March 15th, we will convene the Vance Monument at 3 pm .
Occupy Asheville recognizes the interrelated tyrannies that govern and control our lives. From the workplaces to the statehouses to our own homes, a web of oppression extends into nearly every facet of modern life. It is only by organizing and growing conscious of this fact that we will develop our society in an egalitarian direction. In honor of this, and on the date of the murder of Caesar, Occupy Asheville will hold a festive march to commemorate the struggle against oppression, against both great tyrannies and petty tyrants.
Occupy Asheville welcomes your energetic participation. Feel free to bring signs, themed costumes, banners, puppets, instruments and other props to the march.
Occupy Asheville is dedicated to liberating public space in peaceful protest and coordinating networks of resistance to corporate dominance with our sister cities across the nation and globe.

Wha? All they can see is oppression in the freest society in the history of the world. They should take a trip to North Korea, Iran, the Sudan, China, etc. and see what real oppression is like. For the occupy crowd, their idea of oppression consists of getting out of bed, making breakfast for your kids and going to work each day (and not having your marijuana and birth control pills paid for by your fellow citizens - from each according to his abilities to each according to his needs). Can these folks get any more juvenile, and spoiled?

This free society that you are speaking of has enslaved millions of people to benifit a few. It has stolen 3.79 million square miles of land from its previous inhabitants. It has killed nearly 2,000,000 civilians in foriegn wars in the last decade alone. It developed nuclear weapons, the greatest threat to humanity every known. It has endorsed free trade agreements with counrtys that use sweatshop labor, so that it can get cheap goods. It embraced eugenics, even after the fall of the Nazis and sterilized somewhere between 64,000 and 80,000 of its own citizens because it didn't feel they deserved to have children. Now it is trying to prevent women from getting there contraception...
You and I have a different idea of free.

Interesting, if incredibly facile and incorrect, take on the Occupy movement. How about considering what the movement itself identifies as their goals, instead of accepting a critic's definition, since the type of 'oppression' the movement focused on has nothing to do with pot and pills:
"The Movement intends to focus on unfair practices and structuring within the world’s economic systems...
Occupy urges the fair taxation for all citizens giving just as much taxation to the world’s rich if not more when compared to the rates of the middle classes and poorer citizens. Along with a fair taxation system the world’s governments should be utilizing their power to protect their citizens from unfair monopolistic practices..
Occupy seeks to have the world's governments be more accountable in not starting violent conflicts that are usually motivated with economical or political intentions...
The Occupy Movement intends to allocate resources wherever capable to defending the citizens of the world from destructive Nationalistic and religious ideologies that threaten our human race...

You may genuinely be against the Occupy movement, but at least get the facts right.

When I think juvenile and spoiled, I think of multi-billionaire hedge-fund manager Ken Griffin, prominent Romney supporter, who recently whined that ultra-wealthy people like him have "insufficient influence" on the political process. Imagine the gall of that - the sense of greedy, selfish, arrogant entitlement it would take to suggest that someone like himself, who is free to pump literally millions of dollars into political campaigns, complaining that he has "insufficient influence".

Any society that would produce someone like him, spread this bile across newspapers as if it were a valid point of view, and allow the frontrunner in the race for President to stand by him and support his comments, is a seriously messed up system that needs drastic reform.
