Here's the press release from Patsy Keever's congressional campaign:

While our families are struggling to cut their budgets to afford to fill the gas tank, Washington is giving taxpayer subsidies to Big Oil companies and refusing to crack down on Wall Street speculators.

Current gas prices average $3.83 per gallon nationally right now, up approximately $.40 since the first of the year. And though a lot of people are looking for someone to blame, the facts are that Saudi oil supply has decreased, there is increased demand from China and India, gas prices tend to rise as good weather arrives and Wall Street speculators are driving prices up.

In a recent statement, Patsy Keever said:

Washington Republicans could lower gas prices today if they wanted to, but they’ll have to stand up to Big Oil which spends millions of dollars on campaign contributions. Right now, we should take steps to prohibit Wall Street speculators from artificially driving up oil prices and end billion-dollar subsidies to Big Oil. We must continue to pursue clean energy alternatives—like wind and solar—that will help create good jobs here in North Carolina while bringing down gas prices.

Patsy Keever represents District 115 in the North Carolina State House of Representatives. She is currently running for the U.S. House in North Carolina’s 10th Congressional District.
