Earlier this year, Xpress reported on rumors that Morgan Geer (of The Merle, for old-school Ashevilleans; Drunken Prayer, for newer transplants) was moving back to Asheville after nearly a decade living and writing in Portland. Judging from the number of local appearances Drunken Prayer has made since releasing its latest effort, Into the Missionfield, at The LAB last February, those rumors were true.

For those unfamiliar with Geer's rough-and-tumble alt-country stylings, the album is a dark mishmash of outlaw country twang and electric rock blustering, tempered with just enough pop (and the occasional spattering of horns) to keep Geer's gruff delivery inviting. There's the occasional psychedelia, a little bit of jazz and not so subtle nods to the blues, but as with all of Geer's work, Into the Missionfield is the product of a seasoned songwriter. This weekend, Geer and Co. make their latest local appearance at The Get Down, kicking off a short tour that includes a string of dates in New York City. So check out the show and make Geer welcome. He's officially ours again.

DJ Lorruh opens.

10 p.m. $5.
