Chelsea Crowell has music pedigree: She's the daughter of Roseanne Cash and Rodney Crowell; she's the granddaughter of Johnny Cash. But her bio downplays all of this, saying only, "It has been rumored that Chelsea is of blood relation to talented people of great interest. No DNA test has been done."
Her own songs are spooky, clever, rhythmic and pleasantly dark. Listen to "Tremolo Trees":
Crowell plays Jack of the Wood this Friday. The show begins at 8 p.m. with local outlaw honky tonk by Southbound Turnaround. David Earl Tomlinson (of The Plowshares) and Pete James (of the Honeycutters) also perform. $8 at the door.
