In a rare joint press conference, Asheville Police Chief William Anderson and Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan announced that at least 4 of the recent bank robberies in the area were committed by the same man, Clyde Allen Nixon.
The authorities also believe he is involved in a number of armed robberies across the region. He should be considered armed and dangerous he has a criminal history including violence against law enforcement officers. If seen, call 911.
Warrants were taken out on him for robberies of banks Feb. 9 at Wells Fargo, 900 Smoky Park Highway; Feb. 24 at RBC Centura (now PNC Bank), 1007 Smoky Park Highway in Candler; March 20 at First Citizens Bank, 1375 Patton Avenue in Asheville; and March 30 at First Bank, 6 Dogwood Road in Candler.
