The 15-piece orchestra is led by keyboardist Mausiki Scales, who formed the group more than a decade ago, drawing from American artists like Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Miles Davis and George Clinton, along with his love for traditional African music and the Afrobeat fusion popularized by Fela Kuti in the '70s. The band first gained the attention of critics performing at Kuti tributes but has since shared the stage with an eclectic roster of artists that includes Roy Ayers, Les Nubians, Lauryn Hill, Slick-Rick and many more.
