Smiling Hara Tempeh has recalled its retail products in response to its tempeh testing positive for salmonella. The press release is below:
"Tests by the NCDA&CS have confirmed that [Smiling Hara Tempeh has tested] positive for salmonella. Chad Oliphant of Smiling Hara Tempeh says that the company is initiating a voluntary recall of their retail products out of an abundance of caution. The products in question were manufactured between January 11 and April 11, 2012. The 12-oz containers are marked on the label with a best-by date of 7/11/12 through 10/25/12. The sample was collected from a routine inspection conducted by the Food and Drug Protection Division. Further testing is underway to determine the extent of the issue. Consumers should not consume the products in question and should return them immediately to the place of purchase for a full refund. Those wishing for more information can contact the company at 242-1300."
