The N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources has turned in a final, 484-page report on hydraulic fracturing, known as fracking, declaring that the procedure could be done safely in the geologically appropriate area around Lee, Chatham and Moore counties. The report, which was commissioned last year by the Legislature, calls for numerous safety applications and for more state funding for additional studies. Hydraulic fracturing is currently not allowed in North Carolina.Read the full article
