For anyone who is lucky enough to have a patch of trees on their property, turning forests into farming gold may be the last thought on their minds. Plots of trees and ferns make great walking trails and childhood wonderlands, but they can also turn a profit.

On Wed., May 9 from 5:30-8 p.m., Mountain BizWorks will offer a workshop on “Forest Farming Practices: Making Money From Your Woodlot.” Permaculture expert Zev Friedman will present information on poly-cropping, growing regional forest farms and selling goods at retail markets. Novice and experienced farmers alike have something to learn from this class, which will be held at the Madison County Cooperative Extension Center in Marshall.

The evening also includes a potluck. Participants are encouraged to bring a dish to share, along with utensils, plates and cups. Beverages will be provided.

Space is limited and preregistration is required for this free class. To register, call 253-2834 x27 or email ashley@mountainbizworks.org.
