According to WLOS and reports from the Buncombe Emergency Operations Center, there are people in need of evacuation along Flat Creek near Weaverville in northern Buncombe County. The EOC is asking for boats to assist people at this time.
UPDATE: The Skyland and Swannanoa Fire Departments have sent boats to assist, along with Asheville and Weaverville FD's
According to the National Weather Service the Flat Creek area received about 4 inches of localized rain in an hour, with the heaviest rain falling between 6:30-7 p.m. Streams in the area topped their banks rapidly. There were reports of mud slides which damaged property. Nearly 30 people were sheltered in a church after being evacuated.
More heavy rain is expected today.
There have not been any injuries reported from the flooding or evacuation operation.
