Singer-songwriter-drummer-author Simone Felice, one of the Felice Brothers (though not one the main bros in the band of that name, he has drummed and sang with his siblings in the group) was named for WNC native Nina Simone. (Though his name is often pronounced as the more masculine "Simon.")

He's also a heck of a writer. This passage — "I can't assume to know where our heroes go when they die. Nirvana. Heaven. The tremendous band in the sky, assembled in the round, together there on a sun-kissed, better shore." — comes from a requiem he composed on the passing of Levon Helm.

Felice is the front man of his own band, which plays the Emerald Lounge on Sunday, May 25. The band is touring in support of new album, Simone Felice. Press described the album as "strikingly simple in its arrangements while extravagant in its emotional impact. Each track is filled with intricate imagery and captivating storytelling, which is not surprising, as Simone is an acclaimed wordsmith, published poet and novelist."
