Jane Whilden is running against Moffitt for the N.C. House of Representatives, District 116. Please spread the word to get the vote out for her. Moffitt needs to be removed before he causes further damage to our community.

So, the bipartisan water system study demonstrated that water system customers are better off with the state running it and this writer wants Rep. Moffitt voted out?

Another multi-layered falsehood from Mr. Peck(1). Whatta surprise.
A) The study was not "bipartisan" by any stretch. The local Democrats representing the majority of water customers were refused seats on this committee. The sole Democrat who was given a seat was "in name only", a conservative from the eastern part of the state who votes with the Republicans as often as not, and he only accepted a seat because the original charge of the committee was to look at statewide water issues. That fiction evaporated before the first meeting. Eventually, he refused to even show up for the final meeting where they voted to recommended seizure of Asheville's water. This was engineered by Republicans All, with multiple layers of deceit at every turn.
B) The committee demonstrated no such thing. The only "demonstration" about future rates, etc. that came out of this discussion was from Tom Hartye, General Manager of the Metropolitan Sewerage District. He said flatly that current ratepayers should expect their water rates to go up if MSD took control of Asheville's water system.

Mr. Peck believes his water rates should go up. I, too, believe Mr. Peck's water rates should go up. See? Bipartisanship.

Achieving that will require doubling the Republican-increase on Mr. Peck(1)'s water rates.
I think that's fair.
