Minor earthquake recorded near Franklin, N.C., on June 19

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that, at 10:41 p.m. on June 19, a magnitude 2.0 earthquake occured about 7 miles north-northeast of Franklin, N.C. No damage was reported.

The largest earthquake ever recorded in North and South Carolina occurred in 1916; it was a magnitude 5.1 quake. The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that a 1.7-magnitude quake occurred May 31 in the same area.
