Author, library critic and Emily Dickinson scholar Christopher Benfey already has an impressive CV. He's also the grandnephew of Josef and Anni Albers, German artists who emigrated to the U.S. to escape Nazi pressure and joined the faculty at Black Mountain College. Benfey's family memoir, Red Brick, Black Mountain, White Clay, follows the journey of his relatives and the artists, craftspeople and scholars they encountered. The book has already been written up in W Magazine and The New York Times Sunday Book Review. Benfey reads at Malaprop's on Sunday, July 8 at 3 p.m. http://malaprops.com. Photo by Jim Gipe.
