WCU selected to receive almost $130,000 for new economic development program

From the office of Sen. Kay Hagan:

Greensboro, NC – U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (NC) today announced new resources for Western Carolina University to spur economic development. WCU was selected to receive a $128,592 investment award from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to fund the first year of a five-year University Center Economic Development Program.

“These resources will support innovation at WCU and strengthen our state’s economy,” Hagan said. “We must continue to invest in research and development that promotes new ideas and entrepreneurship, and I’m pleased that these resources will encourage our students to innovate in order to compete in a 21st century global economy.”

The grant will leverage EDA and WCU investment funds to help communities capitalize on economic development opportunities.
