Two teams made the trek to the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center on Saturday, July 8, and had to make long, hot drives home in defeat. The Blue Ridge Roller Girls dispatched both in very physical, intense action.

The first bout, against the Gainsville, Fla., Roller Rebels featured some of the hardest-hitting action you will ever see, and something you don't see everyday: A referee had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital with head injuries after a fall. He is reported to be doing fine now. The final score (215-63) does not indicate how close this bout was or how hard-fought it was.

The second bout — against the Carolina Bootleggers from Raleigh — was a nail-biter from the start. BRRG outlasted them in the end 157-112.

Saturday, August 25, is the next home bout, a doubleheader against Atlanta, Ga., and Vero Beach, Fla., teams.

Blue Ridge's Skelly-Tor scans the pack ahead to plan her move to score. The star on her helmet marks her as the jammer, or point scorer, for the team in that jam. She gets a point for each opposing player she passes.
