United Airlines to cut Asheville-Houston direct flight in dispute with Houston City Council

United Airlines announced today, July 11, that the direct Asheville-Houston flight will be cut. The move is part of a dispute between United Airlines and the Houston, Texas, over city officials permitting rival Southwest Airlines to operate and expand international flights out of Hobby Airport. The date of the last direct flight between Asheville and Houston has not yet been announced by United at this time. According to WLOS-13 Sherril Barber via the station's website, "An airport spokesperson tells News 13 the daily flights will end in early September."

According to the Houston Chronicle:
Besides Paris, United will cut other destinations it now serves from IAH, its largest hub: Waco; Greensboro and Asheville, N.C.; Toluca, Mazatlán and Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Mexico; and Aruba. Service to those locations is a mixture of United and United Express regional service.Read the full article
