PRESS RELEASE
from Rep. Heath Shuler's office
Today U.S. Representative Heath Shuler (D-NC) released the following statement on the award of $360,000 in grant funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry’s (ABCCM) Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program:
“The Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry has a proven track record of services critical to returning veterans and their families. In the last couple of years the ABCCM has assisted countless veterans’ families in obtaining housing, averaging a 95% housing retention rate. Never an organization to rest on its laurels, ABCCM has also helped to place hundreds of veterans back in to the local workforce with an overwhelmingly successful job retention rate.
“The work of the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry is humbling, and I proud to lend my support to their programs. Their efforts on behalf of our nation’s veterans and their families are as awe-inspiring as it is honorable.”
“ABCCM is honored to be chosen to offer supportive services for veterans’ families,” said Reverend Scott Rogers. “These new funds will compliment and provide the missing piece to our strategy in ending homelessness for veterans by providing homeless prevention funds and rapid re-housing. This opportunity builds on our track record of serving over 600 veterans a year and providing real solutions that help sustain their lives and their standing in our community.”
