Rep. Tim Moffitt launched a new website dedicated to House District 116, the district in which he is currently running for reelection. The website, www.nc116.com, highlights legislation authored or co-sponsored by Moffitt and is totally funded by Moffitt, not taxpayer dollars.
According to an email from Moffitt's communications department, the website is not to be confused with a campaign website, writing, "This is not a campaign website but an official communication from a sitting member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. And while the scope of our effort in this regard may [be] unprecedented here locally, it is really no different from letter on General Assembly letterhead...or an e-mail newsletter sent to a constituent from a member of the legislature." The page will be updated by various writers in Buncombe County over the course of the next several months.

ASHEVILLE, NC - Representative Tim Moffitt (NC-116) has launched a new website to help bring residents of House District 116 (Buncombe County) up-to-date on important legislation considered during the 2011-2012 session of the North Carolina General Assembly. Provided as a constituent service and not paid for with taxpayer funds, www.nc116.com focuses primarily on the bills that Moffitt has either authored or been a co-sponsor of.
“Now that session is over, I’m pleased to be able to bring this information back to the folks I represent back home here in Buncombe,” said Moffitt. “We’ve had a very busy session and I feel it’s my duty to report back to my constituents on the progress we’ve made and the many reforms we’ve passed.”
One of the most prolific freshman members in the history of the North Carolina House of Representatives, Tim Moffitt has been the primary sponsor of 29 bills and has actively co-sponsored 116 others. The site has an extensive catalog of all Moffitt’s bills as well as brief write-ups on individual pieces of legislation. Among the first post to go up, “Raise a Glass to Jobs,” explains how Moffitt’s bill HB796 allowed for the almost overnight expansion of both the Sierra Nevada and New Belgium breweries here in Western North Carolina. “We’ll cover as many areas as we can,” said Moffitt. “My hope is to give folks back home here a clear picture of what we’ve accomplished. And I hope folks will check back often because we’ll be updating the site constantly.”
The new website also contains some stunning high-resolution imagery from the old capitol and the Legislative Building in Raleigh, home to the General Assembly.
The website nc116.com also briefly explains the far-ranging reforms enacted early on in the last session of the legislature, including how for a record $40, members of the House of Representatives moved in to their new offices in record time. There are sections devoted to the operation of the General Assembly itself, pictures and a tour of the Legislative building, and a glossary of legislative terms.

Sorry for the quadruptle posting...MtnXp sure has some gremlins lately.
Interesting info on NC116...I hope this law makes a difference to people requesting public records of non profits using public $$$s. Getting records from publicly funded URTV, was an expensive endeavor for myself and my husband.
Accountability for Publicly Funded Non-Profits
Representative Moffitt was a co-sponsor of HB 572, “Accountability for Publicly Funded Non-Profits.” This legislation better empowers the taxpayer to track tax dollars to make sure they are spent wisely, allowings taxpayers to demand the records of non-profits and corporations who receive over $5,000 of public funding. The non-profits must account to any taxpayer, providing to that taxpayer 1) the amount of public funds they have received, 2) its most recent IRS form 990, 3) and show how the public funds were used.
Requiring companies using public financing to open their books will build confidence in government by putting to rest any questions tax payers have about how their tax dollars are being spent. Those who remit their hard earned dollars to the state have a right to know what happens to those dollars, and this new law makes that possible. HB 572 was signed into law July 12, 2012.
