Out early for a stroll around downtown looking for remnants of Bele Chere?

You would have to look hard. The streets were swept, sidewalks clear, stages gone, and traffic back to normal. The only physical remains still visible was a pile of fencing in the post office parking lot, some electrical connections and a pile of sweet potato fries discarded in a window, now a feast for ants.

Meanwhile, in Pritchard Park, work on the two fountains started promptly at 9 a.m. Jill Haynie was there supervising the moving of rocks to improve seating and safety of the area around the fountains. "It will be interesting to see what we have under the rocks, they have been there since 2000, which was the year I moved here," Haynie said.

The east end of the park will be closed through August 3rd for the work.
