American Folk Art and Framing’s newest exhibit focuses on the very heart of Appalachia, "still a pretty wild place, the old and new of America live in close proximity." Both that place and the show are called
Kentucky. Featured (from Thursday, Aug. 2 through Monday, Aug. 27), are carver Minnie Adkins (she was represented in folk art book
O’ Appalachia and received an honorary doctorate degree from Kentucky’s Morehead State University), painter Jim Gary Phillips (his subjects include real-life stories, dreams and religious beliefs) and self-taught multimedia artist Bruce New (who works with pen and ink, books, maps and construction paper cut-outs). The opening reception for these Kentucky-based artists is on Friday, Aug. 3, 5-8 p.m. http://www.amerifolk.com.
