The Miniature Book Society (founded in 1983, with a world-wide membership) has held its annual gatherings in such places as Seattle, Wash., New Orleans, La., and Dublin, Ireland. During the get-togethers (called Conclaves), there are "guest speakers, tours, workshops, book auctions, a book swap and an all-day book fair, but most of all, connecting with fellow miniature book enthusiasts and the camaraderie that miniature book lovers share," according to the event's website.
So, where to go for the 30th gathering, aka MBS Grand Conclave XXX? Asheville, of course! Of the event, held Friday, Aug. 24-Monday, Aug. 27, organizers say, "Asheville boasts a vibrant literary history. Many contemporary authors and poets have made Asheville their home and are inspired by Asheville's history and beautiful natural setting. Thomas Wolfe (Look Homeward, Angel), O. Henry (The Gift of the Magi), and poet and author Carl Sandburg helped establish a literary tradition that continues to grow and expand."
But we already knew that. If you happen to be a miniature book enthusiast and want to get in on the Conclave's activities (registration is $199 per person), go here and scroll down to the downloadable registration form. The Conclave will be based at the Renaissance Asheville.
