It’s a rare occasion when cellist Yo-Yo Ma comes to the Southeast. When he’s not taking the stage in places as far-flung as London and Japan, he spends most of his time performing on the East or West Coasts. In between concerts he collaborates with musicians like James Taylor and Dave Brubeck. Clearly he’s a busy man.

On Sunday at 3 p.m.,Yo-Yo Ma will close out the Brevard Music Center’s 75th annual festival. Yo-Yo Ma will be playing the Cello Concerto No. 1 by Haydn, Tchaikovsky’s "Variations on a Rococo Theme" and Dvorak’s well-known Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.”

Tickets are sold out, but seats are occasionally released at the last minute. To check for recently released tickets visit http://www.brevardmusic.org. If you are lucky enough to get a seat, you might even get to have your picture taken with Yo-Yo Ma after the performance. His website has a gallery dedicated to fan photos and approximately 50 people have posed with this musical giant.

The performance will be conducted by the venerable Keith Lockhart, performing alongside the Brevard Music Center Orchestra.
