by Clarke Morrision/Romando Dixon:A daily record of 3.28 inches of rain fell Tuesday at Asheville Regional Airport, and other areas throughout the mountains received a steady amount as well. The nonstop precipitation that started late Monday and carried into Tuesday afternoon caused early school closings, urban flooding and accidents.
Heavy rain and wind also toppled trees and power lines and left thousands without power temporarily. Water levels rose throughout Western North Carolina, and the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the French Broad River at Blantyre in Henderson and Transylvania counties.
