Here's the press release:
CHIMNEY ROCK, N.C. (August 8, 2011)—Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park welcomes Michael Rogers as the new Climbing Director at Fox Mountain Guides, the Park’s exclusive climbing partner. As Director, Rogers is the primary rock climbing guide at Chimney Rock and is in charge of promotions and hosting climbing events at the Park, as well as being a liaison with Park staff. Fox Mountain Guides is the only AMGA-Certified program in the Southeast and is known for having some of the most highly-trained and certified guides in the region. They offer 15-minute “taster” lessons and two-hour, half- and full-day, guided single and multi-pitch climbs at Chimney Rock.
“Chimney Rock is an incredibly beautiful and convenient place to rock climb in the Southeast. You don’t get these views with drive-up access anywhere else in the region. Anyone six years or older can walk up with absolutely no experience, immediately get on the rock and start learning to climb, or to climb better. Chimney Rock is readily available to people of all levels of experience and fitness,” said Michael Rogers, Climbing Director at Fox Mountain Guides.
Meet the Director. Originally from the valley of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Michael grew up between the Teton Mountains and the hills of Georgia. He has summited peaks throughout Colorado and Wyoming as well as ascents throughout the Cascade Range. His passion is on the rock and sharing the joy of climbing with others, whether teaching how to tie-in with a rope for the first time or cresting the summit of a hard-earned peak. Michael has a B.S. in Outdoor Education and Leadership, is an AMGA certified Single Pitch Instructor, and a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician. His encouraging and safety-first attitude, combined with his experienced climbing career, make him an ideal instructor for climbers of all abilities at Chimney Rock.
Get More Than a “Taste” of Climbing. Fox Mountain Guides offers a range of climbing opportunities at Chimney Rock, from a 15-minute “taster” for $20 or a 2-hour climb for as little as $45/person (group rate for 3 or more climbers) to a half- or full-day of single or multi-pitch climbing lessons or guided climbs. All equipment is provided; no experience necessary. Groups for birthdays, reunions, scout trips and corporate retreats are welcome and may qualify for group rates. For more information or to schedule a climb, visit chimneyrockpark.com/park/climbing or call Fox Mountain Guides at (888) 284-8433.
