They are coming. We residents of Western North Carolina know it as sure as the residents of beach towns know it. Like the barn swallows, they appear for a few weeks in the fall and then disappear for a while.
But they come back. Even with gas prices at record levels. Even with an election going on. The tourists (the driving kind, not the championship baseball kind) will be here soon.
But as a resident, you have an advantage they don't. You are not confined to weekends. The Blue Ridge Parkway is already deep in fall. A short drive from Asheville can get you up a few thousand feet in elevation and into places you would swear were in Canada, Michigan or Maine.
